Dating Safety Tips
Last updated: June 19, 2026
Pour Toi is designed to be a safer space for intentional connection. But no platform can guarantee your safety outside of it. These tips are practical, honest, and worth reading before you meet anyone you have connected with online.
1. Take Your Time Online First
There is no rush. Real connections develop at a reasonable pace. If someone is pushing you to move fast — to meet immediately, to commit quickly, or to leave this platform for another app — slow down and trust that instinct.
- Keep early conversations on the Pour Toi platform rather than moving to external messaging apps right away.
- Do not feel pressured to share your personal phone number, email, social media accounts, or home address until you are genuinely comfortable.
- A person who is genuinely interested in you will respect your pace.
2. Video Call Before You Meet
A video call is one of the most effective ways to confirm that someone is who they say they are before meeting in person. We strongly recommend a video call — or ideally several — before any in-person meeting.
- Be cautious if someone consistently avoids video calls, makes excuses, or only ever sends pre-taken photos.
- Poor video quality or a blurry screen on every call can be a warning sign.
- Note whether the person in the video matches the profile photos.
3. Meet in a Public Place
For all first meetings, choose a busy, public location — a café, restaurant, shopping centre, or public park. Avoid private homes, hotel rooms, or isolated locations for any initial meeting.
- Choose a place you already know and feel comfortable in.
- Arrive and leave independently — do not accept a lift to or from a first meeting.
- Trust your judgment about the venue; if a suggested location feels wrong, suggest an alternative.
4. Tell Someone Where You Are Going
Before any in-person meeting with someone you have met online, tell a trusted friend or family member:
- The name of the person you are meeting.
- Where and when you are meeting.
- When they should expect to hear from you.
- What to do if they do not hear from you by that time.
This is not pessimism — it is simply good practice. Consider checking in with your contact at the start and end of the meeting.
5. Arrange Your Own Transport
- Plan how you will get to and from the meeting independently.
- Do not rely on your date for transport, especially early on.
- Keep a way to leave readily available — your own car, a taxi app, or public transport.
- Have enough money or credit to get home without relying on the other person.
6. Never Send Money to Anyone You Have Not Met in Person
This is the most important rule on this page. Financial requests from people you have met on any dating platform — however genuine, however emotional, however urgent the story — are a major warning sign.
- Do not send money, gift cards, cryptocurrency, or bank transfers to any person you met on Pour Toi, regardless of your relationship with them.
- Do not share your bank details, credit card numbers, or PayPal login with any match.
- Do not invest in any scheme, opportunity, or business introduced to you through a romantic contact.
- Romance scammers often spend weeks or months building trust before making a financial request. The depth of a connection does not make the request legitimate.
If anyone on Pour Toi asks you for money, please report them immediately using the report button on their profile. You will not be judged for being targeted — it happens to thoughtful, careful people.
7. Watch for Common Warning Signs
These patterns are not always conclusive, but each one warrants caution:
- The person claims to live nearby but is always travelling or working abroad.
- The relationship escalates unusually fast — declarations of love or deep commitment very early.
- Profile photos look like they could be from a model, stock photo, or social media account of someone else.
- Stories about their life change, become inconsistent, or are difficult to verify.
- They avoid meeting in person or on video for reasons that keep changing.
- They ask you to keep the relationship secret from people in your life.
- They ask for your personal contact details, banking details, or passport information.
8. Trust Your Instincts
If something feels wrong, it is worth pausing. You do not need a specific reason to feel uncomfortable, and you are never obligated to continue any conversation or meeting. It is always acceptable to:
- End a conversation at any point for any reason.
- Leave a meeting early if you feel uncomfortable.
- Block and report a member who makes you feel unsafe.
9. Protect Your Personal Information
- Do not share your home address, workplace address, or daily routine with someone you have only recently met online.
- Be careful about what personal details are visible in the background of photos you send.
- Use a secondary email address if you prefer not to share your primary email early on.
- Review your social media privacy settings before linking your profile or sharing your social accounts.
10. Report and Block
If a member makes you feel unsafe, harassed, or uncomfortable, you can:
- Report them directly from their profile or from within the conversation. Every report is reviewed by our safety team.
- Block them immediately. Blocking prevents all further contact and removes them from your view.
- Contact our safety team for urgent situations: safety@pourtoi.love
11. In an Emergency
Pour Toi is not an emergency service. If you are in immediate danger or a crisis situation, contact your local emergency services (such as 999, 911, or 112) immediately. We cannot provide real-time emergency response.
After you are safe, you can report the incident to us at safety@pourtoi.love.
12. A Note on Verification
Pour Toi requires photo verification for all members. This helps us confirm that a real person is behind an account. However, verification does not guarantee that a person's stated identity, claims, or intentions are truthful. Please use your own judgment in addition to any platform safeguards.
